After Matt Crooks powered in a deserved opener inside the first quarter of an hour, City struggled to build on that lead and were pegged back two minutes into the second period at the MKM Stadium. The hosts were left to reflect on another chance missed, albeit against one of the league’s top scorers.

It was, however, a point on the board for City and it stemmed the run of successive defeats in front of their own supporters. Halting back-to-back losses in the Championship against Stoke City and Burnley, the result gives Ruben Selles’ men a positive display to take to Wearside next weekend.

Naturally, having started so well and taken the lead early on, to have not gone on and won the game is frustrating, and it means another home game without a win.

That said, sometimes you need to draw a line in the sand and getting a point on the board against a free-scoring side is perhaps not to be sniffed at, and it gives them a solid base to move forward.

It’s a game City could have won, and the annoyance will be that after going in front, the Tigers didn’t hammer home that advantage, especially with how much joy they were getting down their right with Joe Gelhardt and Lewie Coyle. On the other hand, it was a game they could have lost, so you take the point and now try to build on it over the next couple of weeks with some huge games to come against their rivals at the wrong end of the table.
